Maryland Slots News

Hi folks,

It’s that time again…Yep, time to wade into the Maryland slots debate once again! Marc Fisher, has also decided he wishes to wade in too and has blogged about the matter at The Washington Post. Fisher calls out avid slots opponen,t former Maryland Governor Bob Ehrlich, by suggesting that Ehrlich was a long time supporter of slots when he was in office and only now has he turned his back on them. Why, you may ask? Well, because the current Maryland Governor, Martin O’Malley, is for slots, as they will help balance the precarious Maryland budget.

Marc Fisher notes that:

“What the two governors have in common is that once they got into office and were confronted with the power of the gambling and horse lobbies, as well as the strains of trying to construct a budget while holding down taxes and accounting for steeply rising commodity and labor costs, they turned to the manna of slots.”

Now, some of the other things Fisher suggests, such as his not-so-veiled comparison between slots and drugs, are a bit ‘out there’, but he’s speaking sense when it comes to the slots debate and Maryland Governors; hopefully citizens of Maryland will sit up and listen.

That’s all for now folks, tune in next time for more slots news!
